"Tosca" leaves the NOVAT's stage

March 15, 2017

March 24 the audience will see the play "Tosca" built on ingenious work of Giacomo Puccini, for the last time since its first run over 25 years ago. The performance of the long living play will be freshened up by the debut of Alexey Zelenkov, who will play Baron Scarpia for the first time.

The premiere of "Tosca" in NOVAT took place December 8, 1991. This opera is constantly loved by the audience for its brilliant expressive music and human passions. It's production is accomplished by the director Irkin Gabitov, designer Vyacheslav Okunev and the conductor Alexey Lyudmilin. Made in classic opera terms, the play was intentionally presented on tours across Portugal and South Korea.

The parts of Tosca, Cavaradossi and Scarpia are real vocal achievements for the soloists. The singers highly appreciate this play for its magnificent arias, complex, but incredibly beautiful, instinct with true emotion. Each new performer brought some unique, distinct colors to this long living show.

The new feature of the latest "Tosca" interpretation will be the debut of a young NOVAT's opera company soloist Alexey Zelenkov, who is advancing by leaps and bounds in his vocal skills. In this season, not only has he performed the Tomsky's part in "The Queen of Spades" and Renatos part in "Un ballo in maschera", but he also was the most remarkable participants of the "Bolshaya Opera" TV show. The gifted baritone singer will star on stage as the ominous baron Scarpia, who represents the demonic motive of the whole "Tosca" action.

- It is a dream of each baritone to perform the "Scarpia" part, which is very intricate vocally and dramatically. But I'm sure, I will cope with the tricky Baron part - says Alexey Zelenkov - It's a pity this play is over, but I'm sure that my Scarpia won't be the last, because the upcoming play is not a farewell to Irkin Gabitov's work, and he is the one, who staged "Tosca" in Novosibirsk in due time. Now we are working together with the master on the premiere of the season - it's the opera "Pagliacci" ("The clowns"). It is planned to be ready in April.

The Tosca part is played by Irina Novikova. Cavaradossi is performed by Vladimir Kuchin. The conductor is Eugene Volynsky.

You are invited to see the dramatic masterpiece on the main stage of NOVAT for the last time. "Tosca" will be performed Friday, March 24.

Tickets are available in the box office of the theatre.
