For the first time in history Les Ballet de Monte-Carlo (Monaco) will come to NOVAT to perform on 19th, 20th and 21st February. In Novosibirsk the renowned European company will perform the ballet The Taming of the Shrew set to music by Dmitri Shostakovich and staged by Jean Christophe Maillot. J.C. Maillot is considered one of the most famous contemporary choreographers, and he has been directing Les Ballet de Monte-Carlo for the last 26 years.
Les Ballet de Monte-Carlo’s guest performance at the Main Stage of NOVAT will feature the Bolshoi’s principal dancers Vladislav Lantratov and Ekaterina Krysanova, who was the first interpreter of Katharina’s part for the world premiere of The Taming of the Shrew. Jean Christophe Maillot created The Taming of the Shrew in 2013 specifically for the Bolshoi Ballet, which was an exceptional case, since the master usually stages ballets for his company first and then transfers it to other. According to the choreographer, The Taming of the Shrew is a fine example of human relationship that begs to be translated into the body language. J. C. Maillot staged The Taming of the Shrew with his company Les Ballet de Monte-Carlo later in 2017.

Les Ballet de Monte-Carlo originated in the year 1911, when Serge Diaghilev’s ballet company settled in the Principality of Monaco. The modern-day Monte-Carlo Ballet Company was established in 1985. It was created thanks to HRH the Princess of Hanover’s desire to reinstate the choreographic school in the country. Throughout history the company was headed by Ghislaine Thesmar, Pierre Lacotte and Jean-Yves Esquerre, and in 1993 princess Caroline asked Jean Christophe Maillot to head the company. Nowadays the company consists of fifty artists. Lead by an outstanding modern master, the company rapidly evolves; it has toured almost all around the world and has won great recognition by the ballet community.
