February 28 marked the 95th anniversary of People’s Artist of Russia Anatoly Zhukov (1921-2007) — an outstanding singer and a leading soloist of the Novosibirsk opera and ballet theatre.

A start in life of Anatoly Zhukov coincided with the war years. He participated in the battle of Stalingrad, liberation of Hungary and Czechoslovakia, was decorated with orders and awarded medals.

His repertoire list included the parts of Lensky (Evgeny Onegin),Berendey (The Snow Maiden), Kuragin (War and Peace), Vladimir (Prince Igor), Holy Fool (Boris Godunov), The Indian Guest (Sadko), Almaviva (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Rodolfo (La Boheme) and many others. The singer performed on stages of the Bolshoy and the Mariinsky theatres, the opera houses of Odessa, Perm, Ashgabat and Samarkand. Having a light tenor voice of rare beauty and quality, Anatoly Zhukov was creating splendid and intriguing characters full of artistic charisma and human wisdom.
