Opera Debuts

November 14, 2016

The month of November of 72nd season is rich in debuts. A new role is always a big event and a matter of great excitement for an artist. Not only it is a new vocal or choreography part, but also new emotions, and, of course, energy, that one must fascinate the audience with. Soloists of NOVAT spend a lot of time on rehearsals preparing to present their characters to the public.

In opera productions there will be two important debuts. On November 20 Valery Gordeev will perform the part of Prince Igor in Borodin’s opera. On November 29th Irina Novikova will do a part of Desdemona in Otello by Verdi. Prince Igor is one of the most complicated characters of the Russian opera classics: warrior, defender of the Russian land, a rebellious and suffering person who ended up in captivity. This part was performed by baritones Roman Burdenko, Pavel Yankovsky, Maxim Aniskin. Valery Gordeev has a beautiful voice and bright artistic individuality. His repertoire includes such parts as Ebn-Khakia from Iolanta by Tchaikovsky, Schaunard from La boheme by Puccini, Baron Douphol from La traviata by Verdi. Prince Igor will become the first main role in his list.

While Prince Igor has been performed for seven years on our stage, Otello by Verdi appeared on the playbill only in March of this year. The opera has already gained love of the audience thanks to sincerity and frankness of feelings, richness of melodies and dramatic completeness of the plot. The part of Desdemona has been already performed by Veronika Dzhioeva and Irina Churilova. Irina Novikova, the owner of lyric-dramatic soprano, who is able to meet any vocal challenge, either is it Wagner’s Elizabeth, Yaroslavna in Borodin’s opera or Violetta Valeri in Verdi’s masterpiece, will add this role in her repertoire.
