May 10, 2017

12 May the ballet classics will meet the contemporary choreography at Ivan Vasiliev gala concert, dedicated to the 10 years of his artistic career. Representatives of the best Russian theatres, the colleagues of one of the most outstanding dancers will perform parts of well-known ballet masterpieces of the XIX century and Soviet period along with the latest choreographic works of Ivan Vasiliev on the Novosibirsk stage.

“I always take part in Ivan’s projects from the very beginning, as I am always sure beforehand, that we will accomplish everything – tells Denis Savin, the Bolshoi theatre soloist. – When we started working on his first ballet, we realized right away how inspired the process would be, and how the staging comes from his heart and soul, not from numbers.”

Denis Savin will perform a special dance item with the choreography by Ivan Vasiliev. The soundtrack for his solo is based on a French revolutionary hymn “La Marseillaise” by Édith Piaf. Another choreographic item to be shown in Novosibirsk is a one-act ballet “Love is everywhere”. Based on Stravinsky’s music, it was first time performed at the Bolshoi theatre and on 14 February 2017 the premiere was held at the Mikhailovsky theatre. The ballet’s characters find love in the grim climate of a psychiatric hospital, the ballet stars will appear in totally unexpected images.

Ivan will perform adagio from the “Amadeus” ballet with his wife Maria Vinogradova, the Bolshoi theatre soloist. This fragment is said to be the beginning of a new Vasiliev’s choreographic work, based on Mozart’s music.

The classic Diane and Acteon duo from the “Esmeralda” ballet will be performed by NOVAT’s leading soloist Roman Polkovnikov and the principal dancer of the Bolshoi theatre Anastasia Stashkevich. The ancient lore about Ferkhad and Shyrin sacrificial love stays behind the plot of one of the best ballets of Soviet period “The Legend of Love”, directed by Melikov, with the choreography by Yury Grigorovich. The principal dancer of the Bolshoi theatre, Denis Rodkin and the leading soloist Maria Vinogradova will perform a part of this ballet. The art director of NOVAT’s ballet company Denis Matvienko and a young soloist Xenia Zakharova will perform a lyric duet from the contemporary ballet “Peer Gynt” which has become a significant event for the present season at NOVAT.

The classic ballet heritage will be presented at the concert by an item from a brilliant comic performance “La fille mal gardée” performed by the soloists of the Mikhailovsky theatre Ivan Zaitsev and Anna Kuligiva; there will also be a foot tapping pas-de-deux from “Don Quixote” ballet, performed by Ivan Vasiliev and Kristina Kretova, which is supposed to be the finale point of this ballet festival.

“It’s a fair pleasure to work with Ivan – noted Denis Savin. – You are constantly being amazed and surprised how inspired he is with what he does. You can’t help but pick up the ballet wave he produces.”

Ivan Vasiliev gala concert featuring the ballet stars will be held on the main stage of NOVAT on 12 May. The conductor is an Honored Artist of Armenian Republic, Karen Durgaryan. Tickets are available on the website and at the theatre box office.
