NOVAT summer playbill

May 17, 2022

Dear friends!

Tickets for summer shows are now available in our mobile application, our website and the theatre box office.

This summer we invite all citizens and visitors to NOVAT, the city’s cultural center, to see the best opera and ballet shows of our repertoire.

To mark the beginning of the summer break NOVAT has prepared a number of events specially designed for our younger audience. Chief Stage Director of the company Vyacheslav Starodubtsev will present a new educational operatic project on 4 and 5 June. It’s entitled Pushkiniana, and its purpose is to introduce Russian classical art to our younger theatre goers. V. Pleshak’s opera The Tale of the Dead Princess and the Seven Knights will premiere on the eve of the Pushkin Day. 8 June will be traditionally dedicated to the Novosibirsk state choreographic school graduation concert, where its students and graduates will showcase their achievements in a bright and vivid program. The youngest ensemble of the theatre, NOVAT’s children’s chorus under Margarita Mezentseva, will present its annual artistic report on 7 June. The young artists will perform well-known tunes from your favorite movies and cartoons.

Opera lovers will love our June playbill for the big names of the shows exquisitely staged by Vyacheslav Starodubtsev. 2 June is dedicated to an “opera taste-off” shaped as a light, life-asserting show of Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore. 4 June – a majestic fashion-opera Aida by Verdi. 6 June we invite all admirers of chamber music to a Russian romance night. All fans of classical music and singing are invited to come see the Russian Opera Day featuring the soloists of our opera company, the chorus and the orchestra.

This July will be a month of ballet. 15 and 16 July the Main Stage will host the second part of Shchedrin’s The Little Humpbacked Horse premiere shows. An amazing show that combines classic traditions and cutting-edge technologies was a big success with the audience back in May. We were overwhelmed with your excited feedback and requests to see the company’s new works.

The summer playbill of NOVAT includes the acknowledged ballets hits: Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, Prokofiev’s Cinderella, Romeo and Juliet, Minkus’ La Bayadère and Don Quixote, Adam’s Le Corsaire and Giselle ou les Wilis. During summer vacation season all citizens and visitors will have another opportunity to see the biggest premieres of the 77th season of NOVAT: Roland Petit’s Notre Dame de Paris and Frederick Ashton’s La Fille mal gardée.

The operatic playbill of this summer’s final chapter is enriched with grand-scale classical productions by an opera craftsman, stage director Irkin Gabitov with impressive visual solutions by set designer Vyacheslav Okunev. Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta will run 20 July, Puccini’s Tosca – 28 July, Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci – 10 August. The operatic summer will end with Strauss’ effervescent operetta Die Fledermaus and Verdi’s touching and lyrical masterpiece La Traviata.

All performances fall under The Pushkin Card program.
