Music menu for connoisseurs

February 07, 2018

We invite you to come see concert programmes of a new form featuring world famous stars and enjoy admirably sounding pieces of classical music at a new concert hall named after Isidor Zak.

A concert called “String Orchestra Classics” will take place on 20th February. The NOVAT orchestra together with violin player Alexey Lukirsky, leader of the Mariinsky orchestra, laureate of the International Johannes Brahms Competition (Austria, 2003), will perform Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for String Orchestra in C major and a Grieg suite in olden style "From Holberg's Time”.

The two composers not only knew and appreciated each other’s work, they had even met in person. Some of their friendly correspondence is left intact revealing spiritual affinity of two musicians. Grieg used to write to Tchaikovsky: “… we need to see each other – anywhere: Russia, Norway or someplace else! Soul mates don’t grow on trees!”

Violin player Alexey Lukirsky used to cooperate with Russian and foreign music ensembles, including the orchestras of Bolshoi, Mikhailovsky, Mariinsky theatres: “I had an opportunity to learn from the best, to work and communicate with such great musicians like Svetlanov, Gergiev, Muti, Rozhdestvensky, Zubin Mehta and others” – tells the musician. This February he will perform for the first time on the NOVAT stage.

21st February we invite you to come listen to one of the most talented representatives of the young generation of musicians – Sergey Redkin (piano). He is a laureate of the III Moscow H. Neuhaus Festival, VIII Paderewski International Piano Competition for the young pianists in Poland, III International Maj Lind Piano Competition in Helsinki, VI Prokofiev International Piano Competition in St. Petersburg, laureate of XV International Tchaikovsky Competition steadily touring around Russia and abroad.

European media sources are excited about Sergey Redkin’s performances: “… his fingers are not just tapping those fast passages, but picking every note crystal clear, keeping that brilliant feel of music even in the most intricate parts. It is not so often one can hear such a transparent yet so powerful, equally pushing and though thoughtful performance”.

The Chamber Concert will include musical pieces written in memory of great composers and performed by Sergey Redkin: Tchaikovsky’s Trio in A Minor "In memory of a great artist", Op. 50 (in memory of N. Rubinstein); Trio élégiaque No.2 in D minor, Op.9 (in memory of Tchaikovsky) by S. Rachmaninoff. The concert will be also featured with performance of Alexey Lukirsky (violin) and Eugene Pilipchuk (cello).

The unique acoustics of Isidor Zak concert hall provides an opportunity to catch the tiniest shades of sound, dive deep into the music. These upcoming concerts on NOVAT’s second stage will give you a chance to appreciate the impact of a touching cello and expressive piano.
