NOVAT Gave a Start to the World Tour of Denis Matsuev

October 11, 2016

A distinguished pianist Denis Matsuev gave the only concert in Novosibirsk. “To the City and the World” programme gained a full house in NOVAT and served as a start of a three-month tour in the framework of which the musician will give 42 concerts in the USA, Canada, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Spain and several cities of Russia.

“Any improvisation must be well-prepared, - mentioned Denis Matsuev. – But it actually turned out so that I start a new big tour in Novosibirsk”.

The programme presented by the pianist was very rich. It included Beethoven’s Sonata ¹31, symphonic etudes by Schumann, Mephisto Waltz by Liszt, Sonata ¹ 7 by Prokofiev. “All these pieces start with a big tragedy, in other words, the “theme of death”, - the musician noted. - But each piece ends with optimistic mood and vital harmony. The inside struggle of these pieces is the key intrigue of my new programme”.

Denis Matsuev highlighted that he was very happy to perform in Novosibirsk. He said that his relations with the Novosibirsk audience could be characterized as “long-lasting romance”. “It started about 20 years ago, when I came to the great conductor Arnold Katz for the first time, - the pianist says. – During recent several years the city raised a new generation of spectators, who are in a habit of going to concerts and the theatres”.

Denis Matsuev once again marked the unique features of the grand hall of NOVAT. “Acoustics is absolutely exceptional here, and it’s a great pleasure to play a solo concert, - the artist confessed. – Unwittingly I compare the phenomenal auditorium of the Novosibirsk opera and ballet theatre with Carnegie Hall, where I am having a concert in ten days. I must say that I already played in Novosibirsk many years ago and now I noticed that acoustics became more dynamic and airy”.
