26 March Svatlana Tokareva is going to play the Countess in the most mystic opera by Pert Ilich Chaikosvky – “The Queen of Spades. The Game.” Her appearance shall definitely add new colors to Vyacheslav Starodubtsev’s play, which main character won’t be an old crone as it’s usually depicted.
“Some time ago I realized that the Countess of “The Queen of Spades” must resemble a slightly aged Carmen, a woman still full of passion in her blood – tells Svetlana Tokareva – so I decided to add some Bizet type gypsy charm into this fatal character. It’s hard to imagine this character as a young woman, full of life, since it’s usually portrayed as quite old woman, although it’s not stated anywhere in the original text.”
