“Pagliacci” - 125 years onstage

125 years ago, on 21 May 1892 Rudgerro Leoncavallo’s opera “Pagliacci” was first time staged at the Milan opera house. The performance directed by Arturo Toscanini was a complete success, and later became one of the most popular operas in the world. In April 2017 the Novosibirsk audience witnessed the premiere of Leoncavallo’s masterpiece, which became the significant Verism manifest in the late XIX century.

The unique artistic ensemble worked on this staging: the musical director and the conductor – Valentin Uryupin, the director – Irkin Gabitov, the choreographer – Gali Abaidulov and the designer – Vyacheslav Okunev. Efforts combined, they moved the story of betrayal and revenge in the strolling actors company into 1950s, making a colorful, highly emotional and energetic performance, created in keeping with the best traditions of the classical theatre.

The next performance of Leoncavallo’s opera “Pagliacci” will be held at NOVAT on 20 June. Tickets are available on the website and the theatre box office.
