22nd June, on the Day of mourning and remembrance a concert took place at a park in front of the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet theatre, which closed the International Peace forum, held in the city. The Academic Symphonic orchestra of the Novosibirsk Philharmoniñ society directed by Mikhail Tatarnikov, the Mikhailovsky theatre chief conductor has performed the Symphony No. 5 by Pyotr Ilich Tchaikovsky.
“The late works of Tchaikovsky are as relevant as possible for this date – states Mikhail Tatarnikov. – Especially the vivid and saturated Symphony No.5, which contains both tragedy and serenity”.
The concert on the Day of mourning and remembrance is a cooperative project of the city hall, NOVAT and the Novosibirsk Philharmonic Society associated with the Peace Forum moderated by the city government to draw attention to values of living in peace. For this event NOVAT has invited the conductor Mikhail Tatarnikov, who has been a great associate of the theatre during the past seasons.
“As a Saint Petersburg citizen, I must mention the special value of the Symphony no. 5 of Tchaikovsky – noted the conductor – it holds a particular place in our culture since the times of the insuperable interpreter of that piece, Eugene Mravinsky who was in Novosibirsk with his orchestra during the Great Patriotic war”.
