Veronika Dzhioeva: Stabat Mater is music for my voice and my soul

December 01, 2017

The Novosibirsk’s favorite opera star, NOVAT’s prima donna Veronika Dzhioeva will grace with her presence the quartet of brilliant soloists invited to perform this genius sacred masterpiece.

In the eve of performance Veronika admitted that she considers Stabat Mater one of those great pieces that touch the very depths of human soul: “Rossini’s music is familiar to me, with all its beauty and profusion. I am very grateful to Dmitry Korchak for uncovering Stabat Mater for me. I have never heard of this majestic, touching music before I was invited to this project. I am fascinated by this work, I plunged myself into it, listened through every record I could find and I am currently learning my part with pleasure. The first part is especially touching – Stabat Mater Dolorosa” (“the sorrowful mother was standing”) telling of the torments of Holy Mother standing next to her son’s crucifix”.

Veronika marked that Dmitry Korchak managed to gather a perfect ensemble of soloists for the performance of Rossini’s sacred cantata: “I can’t wait to meet my partners. I know Yuliya Matochkina, she has an amazing mezzo-soprano and I am looking forward to meeting the brilliant vocalists like Rene Pape and Lawrence Brownlee, which I have never worked with before. I believe that only a top class singer could pick the cast perfectly fitting this inmost masterpiece. Dmitry Korchak himself is capable of performing sacred music and in my opinion, that is a feature of a highly talented master. After I had listened to a number of Stabat Mater renditions I realized that few soprano singers can master this. Dmitry persuaded me that this music is right for my voice. Now I feel this masterpiece fit perfectly – both my voice and my soul”.
