The Return of «La Bayadere»

January 27, 2017

After a sequence of romantic New Year fairy tales La Bayadere ballet returns to the stage of NOVAT, a true encyclopedia of classic dance. The plot is based on an ancient eastern legend of feelings between an Indian dancer, bayadere Nikia and a courageous warrior Solor. Incredibly beautiful, elegant and choreographically generous ballet, staged by Marius Petipa 140 years ago, doesn't look archaic at all.

La Bayadere in the playbill of NOVAT is like a feast for the eyes. Set designer David Monavardisashvili, whose designs enrapture with their rich oriental flavour, and Alexander Vasiliev, costume designer and fashion historian can both take credit for that.

Stars of Novosibirsk ballet, such as Natalia Ershova, Roman Polkovnikov, Olga Grishenkova (February 2), Anna Zharova, Mikhail Nedelsky and Anna Odintsova (February 3) will participate in the nearest performances of La Bayadere. One of the brightest parts of the world ballet, Golden Idol's variation, will be performed by a young soloist of NOVAT, Arno-Stin Tsembengoy (February 3).

Pavel Sorokin (The Bolshoi Theatre of Russia) has been invited to conduct the performances.
