Vyacheslav Starodubtsev became a member of international jury at the “Nano-Opera” competition

The chief director of NOVAT, Ph. D in art history Vyacheslav Starodubtsev became a judge at the “Nano-Opera” unique international competition for the young opera directors. It’s arranged by the Moscow Musical theatre “Helikon-Opera” together with the Moscow Department of Culture and “Culture” TV channel. The judges are the intendants of the best European opera houses; the chairman is the National Russian Artist, Professor Dmitry Bertman.

“It’s an honor for me, to be a judge at the unique comptetition, which gives the young directors a very special opportunity to prove themselves working with professional artists – tells Vyacheslav Starodubtsev, the chief Director of NOVAT – especially when my colleagues are the world’s best opera houses intendants.”

The members of the professional jury are: the director of Opera-Europa Nicolas Payne, Artistic & Production Director General at Gran Teatre del Liceu, (Barcelona, Spain) Christina Scheppelmann, Intendant at Deutschen Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf und Duisburg, Germany Christoph Meyer, Director General at The Norrlands Operan in Umeå, Sweden Kjell Englund, Intendant der Oper Theater Dortmund, Germany Jens-Daniel Herzog, Opera Stage Director Andreis Zagars, Artistic and General Director of Natalia Sats Moscow Children Musical theatre Georgy Isaakian, and also Artistic Directors of the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet theatre Sergey Bobrov and Neeme Kuningas.

This year, the competition will be aired on TV. 25 and 26 May the “Culture” TV channel will stream the first and the second rounds live, 27 May – the third one.

The young directors will have to present the concept and the blueprint of the upcoming performance and also to plan a part of a performance from scratch using the given cast. This year ten participants from different parts of our country and the young directors from Denmark and Italy will fight for the grand prize of this fine competition.

The next Vyacheslav Starodubtsev’s performance based on Verdi’s opera “Un Ballo in Maschera” will be held 26 May. Tickets are available on the website and at the theatre box office.
