The Golden triad of Tchaikovsky

May 14, 2017

The ballets of Pert Ilich Tchaikovsky hold a specific place among the treasures of the world ballet heritage. Today, all ballets of Tchaikovsky’s great triad – “Swan Lake”, “Sleeping Beauty” and “Nutcracker” are presented in NOVAT’s repertoire.

In his time, Tchaikovsky’s ballet music was innovative, because his predecessors wrote music for a support role, it was only an accompaniment for the dance. It’s because of Tchaikovsky’s efforts the ballet music took its rightful place among the opera and the symphonic music. In his ballet the music not only describes the dance, it serves as a spiritual source, it creates the dramatic filling and psychological significance. The composer kept the conventional ballet forms: lyrical duet, character dance, items with corps-de-ballet, but he filled them with new meaning.

The Tchaikovsky ballet world is full of romantic fairy-tales, hiding deep philosophical and existential thoughts in its simple plot. His characters possess all human feelings and emotions, but keep their sublime magical origin.

You are invited in NOVAT to see the ballets of Tchaikovsky’s “great triad”!
