Conductor

Graduated from St. Petersburg State Conservatoire n.a. Rimsky-Korsakov, class of symphonic and opera conducting. In 2006 debuted in the Mariinsky Theatre with Metaphysics ballet with music of 2nd symphony by Prokofiev; a year after that he staged The Love for Three Oranges opera by Prokofiev. Among his other works on the stage of the Mariinsky Theatre The Flying Dutchman and Tristan and Isolda by Wagner, The Magic Flute and The Marriage of Figaro by Mozart, The Maid of Pskov and Sadko by Rimsky-Korsakov, Attila by Verdi. Worked as Valery Gergiev's assistant at the performance of Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen tertalogy in the Metropolitan Opera.


Mikhail conducted in numerous foreign theatres, such as La Scala, Opera Bordeaux, Bavarian State Opera, Komische Oper Berlin, Bergen National Opera, Austrian Theater An der Vien, Polish National Opera, Riga Opera, Bruxelles La Monnaie Theatre. Worked with orchestras of Turin, Jena, Tokyo, Oslo, Dresden, Rotterdam, Gavle, Stresa, St. Petersburg and Novosibirsk.


Since 2012 - musical director and principal conductor of the Mikhailovsky Theatre. Under musical direction of Mikhail Tatarnikov the Theatre has presented such premieres as Eugene Onegine by Tchaikovsky, Billy Budd by Britten, The Tsar's Bride by Rimsky-Korsakov, Manon Lescaut by Puccini, Il Trovatore by Verdi, Romeo and Juliet by Prokofiev and Multiplicity. Forms of Silence and Emptiness with music by Bach, symphonic concerts and semi-stage opera performances: Don Juan by Mozart, Manon Lescaut by Puccini, Il barbiere di Seviglia by Rossini.


In 2013 Mikhail was honoured with a Golden Spotlight special award in St. Petersburg For artistic expression of conductor's solutions.
