Assistant stage director Irina Angaskieva told us about production arrangements.
“I’d say that our Otello can be called a semi-stage performance: there is stage setting in the production. I only worked on artists’ movements patterns, characters were developed by the singers. Verdi’s music is very impulsive, sometimes it even provokes aggression, it seems like Otello is about to strangle Desdemona from the very beginning. As for the video sequence, it is minimalistic and atmospheric rather than theme-based. I wanted to see how each of our soloists experiences their character. It came out very natural. Every artist imports something special to the role, there are completely different Iago, Desdemona and Emilia in different casts. I believe it will be interesting!”
