17th March jazz trio under Igor Bril started a new chapter of NOVAT’s history – first JazzNOVAT concert at Isidor Zak concert hall was sold out.
Russian jazz maestro, virtuoso pianist Igor Mikhailovich Bril along with talented jazzmen Yakov Okun and Sergey Hutas introduced an impactful programme involving jazz and blues classics and original tracks to the Novosibirsk audience. Maestro Igor Bril himself hosted the concert. His lyric, spirited piano with Yakov Okun’s ironic, expressive drumming and dynamic yet laid-back contrabass of Sergey Hutas created an amazing spring atmosphere of freshness and warmth.
“The most important thing is that during the concert we managed to establish that very emotional energy exchange with the audience, a very valuable thing for jazz admirers. I must admit it didn’t appear right at the beginning of the concert, and it didn’t last the entire time once it was found, but when we felt we were doing the right thing, on rise, the audience reacted more emotionally as well. It’ a usual thing – the audience is more sensitive to the emotional aspect than the technical one, like getting all the twists and turns of a style or a genre in total – Igor Bril shared his impressions after the concert – the hall is fine, the audience is nice, I believe many jazz musicians would love to come and play here”.
The audience held its breath when at the end Igor Bril played as an encore his heartfelt work “Prayer” and then broke into applause on the final piece, Duke Ellington’s “Caravan”, performed by the band in a masterful and a bit ironic way.
