On January 6, on Christmas Eve, NOVAT visitors will get a very special gift – the main parts in The Sleeping Beauty by Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky choreographed by Nacho Duato will be performed by Angelina Vorontsova and Denis Matvienko. The part of Princess Aurora will be performed by one of the brightest ballerinas of nowadays, prima of the Mikhailovsky Theatre Angelina Vorontsova. The Novosibirsk audience has already had a chance to appreciate her skill at the premiere performance of The Sleeping Beauty and in Don Quixote by Ludwig Minkus where she gorgeously performed the role of Kitri. Adagio with cavaliers in The Sleeping Beauty performed by Angelina deserves special attention. Musicality, artistic charisma and technical preciseness of the ballerina have been appraised by the wide audience and ballet maitres.
Befitting the brilliant Princess is Prince Desire – the artistic director of NOVAT ballet Сompany, Honoured Artist of Ukraine Denis Matvienko who was characterized by the great Natalya Makarova as “Baryshnikov, Nureev and Godunov rolled into one” – a real Prince of inborn nobility and aristocracy.
These are not all Christmas presents. The part of Fairy Carabos will be performed by Mikhail Lifentsev. It remains a real mystery how the masculine dancer manages to transform himself into such character. The first performance of Mikhail in the role of Carabos made the audience burst out of applause. The part of Lilac Fairy will be performed by dearly loved by the Novosibirsk audience Honoured Artist of Russia Anna Odintsova.
Nacho Duato’s choreography found a decent framing in the set design and fantastic costumes by Angelina Atlagic. The orchestra under baton of Dmitry Yurovsky performs the great music by Tchaikovsky with a special thrill and inspiration.
