40 Years With the Theatre: for Anniversary of Solomon Kaplun

On July 1 veteran of the Novosibirsk opera and ballet theatre, senior of the Scientific and Technical Council, Honoured Cultural Worker of the RSFSR Solomon Kaplun is celebrating his 90th anniversary.

Solomon (Semyon) Kaplun was born in 1926. In 1948 he graduated with honors from the Moscow Technological Institute of Light Industry and began working at the Novosibirsk chrome factory. In 1956 Solomon Kaplun joined the Novosibirsk state academic opera and ballet theatre as Chief Engineering Officer; he worked in the Theatre for more than 40 years in total.

Responsible attitude to his job, high capacity for work, deep knowledge and outstanding organizational skills have let him master various kinds of complicated equipment of the biggest theatre building in the country; develop and execute a series of actions concerning fire prevention and technological security systems; tool the Theatre up with new equipment. Notably, under supervision of Mr. Kaplun capacity of power station was increased by 300% without closing the theatre; emergency lighting system was adopted; a unique fire safety curtain was installed; new rehearsal rooms were fully equipped and more.

90th anniversary of Solomon Kaplun is a significant event, to which NOVAT dedicates Spartacus ballet performance featuring Denis Matvienko on July 1.
