Georgy Kovtun’s “Spartacus” leaves NOVAT

March 20, 2018

Dear friends! Do not lose a chance to see last performances of A. Khachaturyan’s “Spartacus” with choreography by Georgy Kovtun on 27th and 28th March 2018 at NOVAT.

Artistic Director of the Novosibirsk opera and ballet theatre Vladimir Kekhman: “We’ve made a decision to keep “Spartacus” with Yury Grigorovich’s choreography, because we believe that Georgy Kovtun’s production has accomplished its mission in Novosibirsk. In 2016 we presented this production to the Novosibirsk audience to introduce the world of grand ballet to the people, fond of blockbusters and visual effects. Kovtun’s “Spartacus” was designed following the principles of creating a monumental historic movie, and it has attracted new audience and promoted interest for ballet”.

Georgy Kovtun’s “Spartacus” was first shown in Novosibirsk January 21, 2016. This production is a mixture of theatre genres – dancing, singing; it involves the chorus, the supernumeraries, 300 people in total. Gorgeous, complex costumes painted with noble tones of gold, dynamic choreography with incredible stunts and lifts, realistic ballet scenes, fat feasts, a real tiger on stage – this ballet production fascinates you with its scope and visual appeal. This Kovtun’s production neighbored a Soviet ballet masterpiece in NOVAT repertoire – Yury Grigorovich’s “Spartacus”. Two renditions of a legendary ballet by Aram Khachaturyan were not competing, on the contrary – they complimented each other, giving the audience completely different impressions – a dramatic, concise, elegant “Spartacus” by Yury Grigorovich and a liberated, brutal, vivid ballet of Georgy Kovtun. From now on, NOVAT repertoire will only have Aram Khachaturyan’s “Spartacus” with choreography by Yury Grigorovich.

A. Khachaturyan’s “Spartacus” ballet with choreography by G. Kovtun – March 27, 28.
