<p>Season 76 is to start with a premiere – new staging of Tchaikovsky’s <a href="/en/theatre/repertoire/iolanta_new/" style="color: #8C1E46;">Iolanta</a> will be performed on 19th September and 7th October on the Main stage of NOVAT. The great composer’s tenth opera, his last and most sublime piece was inspired by an ancient French legend about a blind daughter of a king, who forced her entourage to keep her ignorant of this issue. The new staging of Iolanta is brought to you by Stage Director Irkin Gabitov, Conductor Dmitri Jurowski and Set Designer Vyacheslav Okunev. This romantic legend replete with symbolism is planted in the age of knights, and it tells us about learning the truth through suffering and self-sacrifice.</p><br /><br />

<p>Stage Director Irkin Gabitov underlined that Iolanta’s music score consists only of poetry and utterly lacks mundane aspect: “My goal is to stage the very opera that Tchaikovsky created – a tale full of deeper meaning, of the Divine Providence as the most important thing in human life and the real enlightenment being hidden in finding love and favor with God.” </p><br /><br />

<p>Music Director of this staging Dmitri Jurowski explained that one of the most important things in the upcoming premiere for him is “the heart line” – the pulse of human life constantly changing its pace: “The main thing for all the participants of this production is to find and feel their own tempo in keeping with Tchaikovsky to avoid “inner blindness” and clichés, which spoil a lot of Iolanta productions.”</p><br /><br />

<p>Set Designer of this production Vyacheslav Okunev came up with scenery and costumes clearly rendering the spirit of chivalry times – a romantic, yet mystic medieval castle with blooming garden, historic costumes embellished with gold and embroidery sustained in noble color scheme. </p><br /><br />

<p>The new opera season will start with Iolanta opera at NOVAT’s Main stage on <a href="/en/afisha/performances/detail/1974872/" style="color: #8C1E46;">19th September</a> and <a href="/en/afisha/performances/detail/1974874/" style="color: #8C1E46;">7th October</a>. </p><br /><br />
