The renovated “La Boheme” by Puccini will be performed at the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet theatre on Thursday, 8 June. However, the ones who have seen the rehearsals say that it’s not about renovating the 20 years old performance, it’s a completely new production of the world famous masterpiece.
Being one of the best representatives of Verism, this performance is particularly honest about everything: true-to-life characters, realistic plot, and sincere emotions.
“La Boheme” is a kind of opera performance, which allows to be retold – tells the director Alexey Stepanyuk – nowadays we are aware of the incurable deceases causing death of some young people. This combines with the intension to achieve goals in life, and this was always a feature of artistic class. In my opinion, these problems are even more sensitive in our time than in Paris of the XIXth century. I suppose the audience will find the performance interesting: young people would see their reflection in the characters and the elders will recall the old times”.
