The Golden God requires a decent muscular system

April 26, 2017

“La Bayadere” ballet by Ludwig Minkus will be performed on the main stage of NOVAT 27 and 28 April; the plot of the story is based on a romantic legend about a tragic love of a temple dance girl and a brave warrior. The dance of a Golden God, bearing an important conceptual sense in Petipa’s blazing choreography, will be performed by Eugene Basalyuk, the winner of several international dance competitions.

“The choreography of this item is really tough; the expression is quite attractive though – noted Eugene Basalyuk – with the body all covered in special golden paint, the dancer is first required to play the idol idle, with the arms frozen in a certain pose, and then to perform a number of sharp expressive moves.”

The two minute dance of the Golden God was included in “La Bayadere” performance thanks to Nicolay Zubkovsky, who created this masterpiece as the ballet was reissued at the Kirov theatre in St. - Petersburg in 1948. Nevertheless, this item became an indispensible part of the ballet even 70 years after it was created by Marius Petipa.

“This is not just a spectacular item for the audience – states Eugene Basalyuk, as he is speaking of the fragment, where the golden statue of a Hindu god comes alive as a dreadful sign of inevitable revenge – the dance of the Golden God is a male power dance, including leaps, rotations, and stunts. Even if you have nice physical qualities, you will have to make a lot of effort and spend enough time for preparations.”

The next performances of “La Bayadere” will be held at NOVAT on 27 and 28 April at 19.00. Tickets are available on the website and at the theatre box office.
